Zadar Croatia with kids

We traveled to Croatia with our almost 7 year old twins in June, 2017. Here’s what we did in Zadar Croatia with Kids:

What To Do in Zadar Croatia With Kids

  • Zadar is a 3000 year old city.  There are ancient Roman ruins and a forum to visit.
  • It was super quiet on the Saturday that we explored…(it was also graduation day for a local college, so maybe that’s why).  My research told me to explore Kalelarga Street and People’s Square, but we didn’t….next time!

Museum of Illusions

  • SO MUCH FUN!  Don’t miss this small and manageable interactive museum. Its full of optical illusions to enjoy.

Ancient Glass Museum

  • This is an interesting place to visit.  On the top floor you can view a glass blower working. Unfortunately, there was no English explanation of the process, and no employee present to speak with.

Sea Organ

  • Alfred Hitchcock once said that the Zadar sunset is “the most magical sunset in the world”.  We walked the Riva Promenade to the end of the peninsula and settled in.  We took a seat on the steps of the sea organ, the “architectural sound art object” that “put Zadar on the map”. The artist put organ pipes in the sea under the stairs so that when the waves crash, the pipes fill to create a haunting music. It sounded like the dissonance of an orchestra tuning their instruments. It is beautiful and peaceful there.

Greeting To The Sun

  • The other waterfront highlight in Zadar is Greeting To The Sun, a solar powered art installation.  As darkness approaches, the (22 meter) circle of glass panels comes to life with multicolored lights.  Kids and adults enjoyed running, jumping, dancing and canoodling in the circle.  Its super cool and worth the wait for darkness to arrive!

Where to Eat: Zadar Croatia with kids

Bruschetta’s

  • Said to be the best restaurant in town.
  • It was PACKED for lunch, but we got a seat (make a reservation if you want to go for dinner).
  • The Italian food and service are good.
  • The atmosphere is lively and informal

Where to Stay: Zadar Croatia with kids

Falkensteiner Resort

  • This Resort is about 15 minutes outside of the Old Town of Zadar.
  • The grounds are beautiful and include multiple (saltwater and fresh water) indoor / outdoor pools and a full spa.
  • We shared a large room with the kids  (junior suite) that featured an en suite bathtub 😜.  It was a pretty strange setup, but great fun for the kids!

NOTES

  • It takes about 2 hours on a regular highway to get from Split to Zadar
  • Adventure parkland paintball is near the hotel, but we did not go there.
