Drive-In Movies in the New York City Area

Here in New York, we endured COVID stay-in-place orders all of Spring 2020.  Scared to catch the virus, I was extremely cautious and hardly left the house for many months.  Our numbers were great by June, and Renato pushed me to finally inch my way back to real life.  In search of socially distant, outdoor, kid-friendly options for activities, I scoured the internet for ideas.  One of the first things that caught my eye was the resurgence of Drive-In Movies in the New York City area.  I hadn’t been to one in many years and was excited to try out some of the various options  This page will direct you to all of the links to read my reviews.

Delicious food and retro vibe

Four Brothers Drive In, Amenia
Four Brothers Drive In, Amenia

Four Brothers in Amenia, New York has been our favorite destination so far.  We have been there three times already!  It is a long drive, but the atmosphere and the food (especially the ice cream shakes!) make it well worth the trip. For my review click here.

Incredible view and hipster vibe

Skyline Drive-In, Brooklyn
Skyline Drive In, Brooklyn

The Skyline Drive-In in Brooklyn, NY is a way closer option.  The gorgeous urban city-scape backdrop cannot be beat! For my review, click here.

Beachy vibe with salty air and breezes

beach in Staten Island

Juicy Lucy BBQ and drive-in on Staten Island is fun because its across the street from the beach.  They also have an early show time, which is great for kids. For my review, click here.

Back to basics

The Fair Oaks Drive-In

The Fair Oaks in Middletown, NY is a pretty bare-boned operation, but it’s easy to get to and near Woodbury Commons if you feel the urge to shop beforehand.  Also, they have two screens, so more choices. For my review, click here.

No facilities what-so-ever

ISH Event on LI

I do NOT recommend ISH Events pop-up theaters in mall parking lots like the one that we went to in Hicksville, Long Island. If you do decide to go, I suggest bringing a picnic, but don’t have too much to drink unless you feel like frequenting a port-a-potty. For my review, click here.

Don’t worry, there’s more to come.  We have tickets for The Wizard of Oz in Queens this weekend!  Stay tuned…
