What’s the plot of We Will Rock You?
The story takes place in a dystopian future that is controlled by the internet. Music is not allowed. Two kids, Galileo Figaro and Scaramouche, have “the vibe” which makes them different. The couple run away and join a group of other social outcasts who are in search of the rock n’ roll they can feel in their hearts.
Thoughts:
- Bohemian Rhapsody, Another One Bites The Dust, We Are The Champions and other hit songs by Queen are the reason to see this show.
- The actors playing the following characters are amazing: Killer Queen, Scaramouche and Galileo. IMHO, the “Ozzy Osbourne” character and her sidekick are lackluster, and the rest of the cast is mediocre at best. There was no playbill, so I sadly cannot give credit to the performers.
- The costumes are vibrant and fun.
- The staging is dull and the special effects added little to my enjoyment of the show.
- The lighting, especially the spotlights periodically shown into the audience is annoying!
- Many quotes from old songs are used as dialogue. Its funny at first, but way overdone.
- References to items like VCRs made this old timer chuckle 😂
- The plot is sadly lacking in depth. That said, it is super easy to understand and follow, so my 9 year old twins did not have any questions; they really enjoyed the show.
Is We Will Rock You for kids?
YES! I’d say it was basically MADE for the 9-13 year old set, especially if they enjoy the music of Queen like my kids do.
What’s the bottom line?
We Will Rock You is mildly entertaining, so I say go for it and bring the kids… if you can get a discount ticket.
