Now that Nina and Alex have gone away to camp (OH MY!), I am again going to attempt to catch you up on our recent adventures. Today, I decided to share our Memorial Day weekend 2021 trip to Coney Island in Brooklyn NY. I have been going there at least once a year for my entire life. My dad used to take us to the aquarium and we always played skee ball and ate at Nathan’s. Nothing has changed 😀
A post COVID world
The last time we went to Coney Island was on Labor Day weekend, 2020. New York was still mostly closed and people were still scared and staying home. This time around was MUCH different. New York was about to make a comeback. Our COVID numbers were good, and we were cautiously ready to go and do something fun to celebrate.
At first, the throngs of people was insanely overwhelming for me. But throughout the day, as I adjusted, it just made me so happy! The crowd was diverse: all shapes, sizes and colors. Young and old, all with the same goal: to have an old fashioned, outdoor, enjoyable day with friends and family. It was so nice to see, especially considering the recent racial tensions in our city (and our country). There’s something very uplifting about everyone being out eating crappy food having fun. It felt like the good ol’ days!
What we did this time in Coney Island
Since it was SO CROWDED, we decided not to go on any of the rides this time around. (For information about Luna Park rides, click here). Instead, this what we did:
car racing track
mini golf
carnival games
Where to eat
Of course, it is a MUST to eat at Nathan’s. Even if you aren’t hungry, you have to at least get the French Fries! I know…Nathan’s is everywhere nowadays, but this is the ORIGINAL! There were MOBS of people on the day we were there, but it was well worth the wait. Oh and note…maybe because of COVID or maybe this occurred before, but they no longer have DIY ketchup and mustard dispensers. It’s of course more sanitary, but kinda makes me sad.
