I know it has been a while since I have written. We have been out adventuring, so no time to write! I have a lot to catch up on, so I will start with a trip that we made a few weeks ago. Of course it was to check out yet another drive-in movie theater. This time, the destination was the Fair Oaks Drive-In in Middletown, New York.
What’s it like at the Fair Oaks Drive-In With Kids?
The Fair Oaks is a simple, no frills, bare-boned drive-in theater. It is the first drive-in that we have been to that had two movies playing simultaneously. A concessions stand separates the two screens. The menu was scant, and really only offered just snack food. Although the churros and the popcorn got thumbs up from Nina and Alex, we were glad that we chose to have dinner before we got there (see below for details).
The bathroom facilities were ok, but not the cleanest I have ever been to. They were desperately in need of a paint job and an upgrade on the sinks (which have the old fashioned, do-it-yourself type of faucets).
Is there anything to do on the grounds?
My city boy was happy to to run free in the field before the show began!
But really, the answer is no. Aside from watching the movie and eating junk food, the only other activities here are gazing at the country sky and ignoring the crickets.
So where did you eat?
A good samaritan on the FB mommas group suggested Frontera for dinner. Just a 15-minute drive from the movie theater, we decided to give it a try. Frontera is a huge restaurant that has a ton of seating available outside. They also have indoor dining. It seemed like a nice atmosphere and the tables were placed in a socially distant manner. Despite the sun, heat, and yellow jackets, we grabbed a COVID-Cautious table outside.
The masked server came quickly, as did our food. We started with fresh guacamole made table-side.
The portions are gigantic and everything tasted really good, especially the nachos! Everyone agreed that we made a good choice. Thanks FB Mommas!😃
