We traveled to Argentina over Christmas Vacation in 2016 with our twins who were 6 ½ at the time. Here is what we did in Iguazu with kids.
What To Do – Iguazu with kids
SEE THE FALLS!
- Words cannot begin to describe the magnificence of Iguazu Falls National Park, and the photos could never do it justice. Iguazu means big water in the language of the indigenous people. The name did not disappoint. The falls were just incredible to see.
- Here’s what else we saw:
Rainbows!
Flora
Fauna
- Incredible wildlife lives in this park! We found:
AND
- A butterfly landed on my daughter’s head! She named it Leela. She was THRILLED! It was the best 20 minutes of her life!
Minera Wanda
- In 1976 when a woman bought land near Iguazu, she never expected to find crystals littered throughout. But she did. She also found mines filled with gems. She cultivated that area and opened Wanda Mines to the public.
- We got to actually go into the mines! We found various colors of agate and some clear pink quartz, but it is mostly known for it amethyst. It was AMAZING!
- The quick tour ended at the work areas and shops.
- It was a 40 minute taxi drive from our hotel and it was INSANELY HOT (in the 90’s), but WELL worth the trek!
Where To Eat – Iguazu with kids
La Rueda
- We traveled to the small town of Puerto Iguazu by taxi (about 20) and had a DELICIOUS but waaaayyyyy long (3 hours!) meal at La Rueda.
- Dessert was spectacular! We had flambé dulce de leche panqueque.
Where to stay – Iguazu with kids
- Loi Suites is a really nice place to call a temporary home, but we had two rooms that did not adjoin instead of an actual suite. This is not ideal when you have little kids.
Notes:
- Be prepared…you usually cannot get out of dinner in less than 2 ½ hours in this country!
- Also beware that due to the proximity of Iguazu to Brazil, the clocks are often on Brazil time (1 hour earlier). This matters especially when you have an early flight out and you set the alarm for 5 instead of 6…oh and there is NOTHING to eat or drink (including coffee) at 5am at the Loi Suites Hotel
