One of our family’s annual summer traditions is a visit to Woodstock, New York. It’s a little far, but we always enjoy our adventures there. This time around, we were lucky enough to spend part of our day with Alex’s school friend and his mom, my friend Elana. It was so nice for the kids to be able to get re-acquainted after so many months of being apart because of COVID. For a minute there, we all felt kinda “normal”. Aside from that, here are the other things that we did while day-tripping to Woodstock NY with kids:
Indulgent Brunch
We had no agenda, so when we spied an IHOP from the highway in Ramsey New Jersey, we decided to make a quick detour. I don’t think Nina or Alex had ever been to an IHOP before and we were all pretty hungry. It was yummy (and gross!), and the four of us felt pretty sick afterward from all of the gluttonous nourishment 😂 .
Healthy Stop
Although Renato does not like to admit it, sometimes the GPS is WRONG! (I don’t know why he takes this statement so personally…like he programmed the thing himself!). Lost, we happened upon Story Farm. It was so picturesque that I had to take a ton of photos. We also bought bags and bags of fresh fruits and veggies…you really can’t find this quality in Manhattan anymore.
Fun in Woodstock
We didn’t have lunch since we ate so many pancakes earlier, but of course we NEEDED ice cream! For some reason our usual stop, Jane’s, was closed. We didn’t know which of the two other ice cream options was best, so we decided to try both Nancy’s and Sweet Dreams Organic. We liked the flavor choices and the ice cream at Nancy’s better.
We walked around the psychedelically colorful town and did some shopping. Sadly, some of our usual spots like the book store were closed, but we had fun anyway. If I had it all to do again (which I will!), I would remember that Sunday is the best day to visit Woodstock, because that is the day that the drum circle meets in the park (I forgot last summer too ☹️). I highly recommend attending that event!
Delicious Dinner
Before departing Woodstock, we made one last stop: Yum Yum Noodle Bar. It was the perfect ending to a lovely day!
